これはSÖNERにとって新たな章の始まりです。私たちにとって初めてのクラシックなタンクウォッチ、SÖNER Tank Royalが誕生しました。プロポーション、角度、そして精度から生まれた時計です。
SÖNER Tank Royalは、800HVの硬化ステンレススチールを用いた24 x 34 mmの角型クォーツ腕時計です。ホワイトダイヤルにローマ数字、隠しリューズ、Swiss ETA 901.001ムーブメントを備え、バッテリーは11年間持続します。
SÖNER Tank Royalは、1920年代アールデコの優雅さ、現代スウェーデンデザインのすっきりとしたライン、そしてスイスの伝統に裏打ちされた精度をひとつにした時計です。
じっくりと眺めると、さまざまなディテールが見えてきます。バーン針は幅広く力強く、輪郭がくっきりとしていて、戦車の砲身のシルエットを思わせます。ちょうど12時に針が重なると、ひときわ印象的な姿になります。一本の黒い砲身が、文字盤の真上を指し示すのです。
数字にも独自のこだわりがあります。CartierやPatek Philippe、Rolex、Longinesをはじめ、ほとんどの一流メゾンのローマ数字文字盤では、4時位置に文法的に正しいIVではなくIIIIが使われています。これは、文字盤の反対側にあるVIIIとの視覚的なバランスを取るための慣習です。SÖNER Tank Royalはこの慣習にとらわれず、本来の表記であるIVを採用しました。「4」がローマ数字本来の正しい形で表記されている、市場でも数少ない時計のひとつです。
そして、ケースです。
その特徴的な構造は、戦車のキャタピラー（無限軌道）から着想を得ています。ブランカード（ケース両側に平行に伸びる縦のフレーム）は、あえて上面を丸く、下面を平らに仕上げており、キャタピラーを構成する一つひとつのパーツを思わせるプロフィールを生み出しています。これによりSÖNER Tank Royalは、よりメカニカルで力強い存在感をまとい、装甲車両の本物のエンジニアリングとのつながりをいっそう強めています。
デザインの中心にあるのは、最初はほとんど気づかないであろうディテール、隠しリューズです。
リューズをケース構造の内側に収めることで、SÖNER Tank Royalは類を見ないほどすっきりとした左右対称のシルエットを保っています。装甲のようなジオメトリーを遮るものは何もありません。正面から見ると、ケースは装甲車両の途切れのない表面のように、ひとつの規律あるフォルムとなります。
そして最後に、「砲塔」です。
立ち上がった上部の構造は、戦車の砲塔から着想を得ています。時計を上から縁取るこの構造が、ケースに特徴的な縦のアーキテクチャを与え、時計とその着想源となった機械とのつながりを完成させています。
SÖNER Tank Royalの個性を形づくるのは、何よりもエレガンス、エンジニアリング、そしてアールデコです。
