Recommended Service Intervals

Like any precision instrument, your Söner watch benefits from periodic servicing to preserve its accuracy and water resistance. How often depends on how the watch is worn: frequent crown use, shocks, exposure to perspiration or cosmetics, and temperature swings all place extra demands on the seals and movement over time.

We recommend a check-up every few years, and sooner if you notice any change in timekeeping or water resistance.

Water Resistance

Every Söner watch is rated to at least 5 ATM, with the Momentum rated to 10 ATM — enough for rain, showers, swimming, and snorkeling, with the Momentum additionally rated for recreational scuba diving. Avoid high-pressure water sources such as car washes or garden hoses, and steer clear of water sports involving impact.

Gaskets degrade naturally over time, so we recommend a water resistance check every couple of years. Always press the crown fully in before water exposure, and contact us if you ever notice condensation under the crystal.

Winding an Automatic Watch

Automatic movements wind themselves through the natural motion of your wrist, and our automatic models hold a 42-hour power reserve. If the watch has been off the wrist for a few days, give the crown about 20 clockwise turns to bring it back to full power.

If it tends to stop even when worn, top it up manually every so often. For a watch left unworn for months, periodic winding also keeps the movement's lubricants circulating evenly.

Handling the Crown

The crown is the primary seal against moisture, so make a habit of pushing it fully home after setting the time or date. A crown left slightly open is the most common cause of reduced water resistance.

Shocks & Vibrations

Söner watches are built to handle the ordinary bumps of daily life, but repeated heavy impacts or sustained vibration — from power tools, for example — can affect the movement over time. Treat your watch as you would any precision mechanism.

Battery Replacement (Quartz Models)

Battery life across our quartz models ranges from 3 to 11 years depending on the calibre. On models with a seconds hand, a hand that jumps in four-second intervals is a clear sign the battery needs replacing.

Always have this done by a qualified professional, who can check the case seals and overall condition while the watch is open.

Protection from Magnetism

Strong magnetic fields can throw off a movement's accuracy. Everyday sources include smartphones, magnetic handbag clasps, laptop and speaker magnets, and hair dryers — worth keeping in mind if your watch starts running unusually fast or slow.

Temperature & Chemical Exposure

Keep your watch away from extremes — above 60°C/140°F or below 0°C/32°F — and from sudden swings between hot and cold. Solvents, detergents, and other household chemicals can degrade gaskets and strap materials, so it's best to remove your watch before cleaning or DIY work.

Cleaning & Maintenance

A soft toothbrush and warm, soapy water are all you need. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterwards and dry with a soft cloth — particularly worthwhile after swimming in salt or chlorinated water. Always confirm the crown is pushed fully in before you begin.

Strap Care

Leather straps age according to how they're worn — skin acidity, perspiration, sunlight, water, and cosmetic products all play a part. Keep leather straps dry and give them a rest from sport or water exposure where possible to extend their life.
